Intrapersonal intelligence entails the capacity to understand oneself and one’s thoughts and feelings, to appreciate it, fears and motivations. Due to Howard Gardner’s view, it involves having an effective working model to use such knowledge in planning and directioning one’s life.
Kid with strong intrapersonal intelligence tends to 'march to the beat of their own drum'. This reflects that they have high self-esteem, self-confidence and are perfectionists. They prefer to work alone, capable to understand their own emotions, goals and motivations. They tend to learn from their own mistakes and successes.
They can be perfectionist, like to set and meet own goals, stand up for their beliefs even if not poplar, worry less about what people think of them as they do not seek the approval of their peers nor their companionship. Also, they enjoy keeping a diary or writing a journal, have a good sense of who they are, and think about the future and what they want to be someday.
However, it is important to lead self-smart kid to work cooperatively with others, take part in sports team, join choir, volunteer to help someone in needs, communicates with friends and family. This is to make sure they no just live in their own world that may cause them to neglect from the group.
To enhance kid’s intrapersonal intelligence we can:
1. Ask them, "Who am I?"
2. Set goals for themselves.
3. Make a list of thing they do well.
4. Ask them to start a diary habit.
5. Talking about themselves and their feelings.
6. Read self-help books.
7. Do something they love, any hobbies or projects that they can do on their own.
